Train Station To Beach Ride

Garmin Connect

John and I got a nice ride in yesterday, even though we got a little wet at one point. These photo's are at the mid point of our ride where we took a break. With Porta John's and a great view, how can you beat that?

Those clouds rolled in real fast and a mile into the last half our our ride, the heavy mist started. We decided to  cut off a few miles and we were able to dry out because the mist was hugging the coast line for the most part. We did start to feel some falling again at about mile 24, but it stopped after a while.

NBW Newport Ride

Garmin Connect

John and I decided to do this updated club ride today, before the arrows wore off the road. Good thing, a lot of them were looking pretty faded, arrows don't last long in this weather.

This Hawk never moved, I rode by it within two feet of it and it never flinched. I used the telephoto on my camera though, I didn't want it coming after me when I got off my bike.

Coventry Bike Path Finished

Garmin Connect

This newest section of the bike path is finished now. It really looks beautiful and I think it ranks right up there as being one of the prettiest sections in RI, if not the the best.

Here I am about to go under RT102.

This is where the last five miles begins,it will go right to the CT. border.

The end of the new section.

Winter will be here soon, ice already forming on the rocks.

This stream was covered by all the foliage, earlier in the year.

Don & Raul's Ride.

Don & Raul's Ride. by paulmnbw at Garmin Connect - Details
I see these solar arrays everywhere now. Just about every club ride has one on it.

John and I did our own version of this new club ride. We started from Dighton/Rehoboth High school, so we could do the back half of the ride. It was freaking cold out, but worth the ride.

First time crossing this bridge in Fall River on the bike path.

Coventry Bike Path

Coventry Bike path by paulmnbw at Garmin Connect - Details

I decided to check out the Coventry bike path again, to see if the construction was completed, it wasn't. As a matter of fact, I only got up to the bridge crossing at Johnson's Pond, before i was stopped by a flagger. They were working on a Saturday, he told me they were trying to get it finished by next week. We'll see.

EBBP Ride

EBBP Ride by paulmnbw at Garmin Connect - Details

It was great to get out and ride today, even though the weather sucked. The wind was brutal going down and back on the bike path, I couldn't wait to get off my bike.

Coventry Bike Path Repeat

Coventry Bike Path Repeat by paulmnbw at Garmin Connect - Details

One month later and I wanted to see how much more work was completed, if any.

Gates were taken down here and the rails look completed. Will it get paved this year?

Just about all the fencing has been erected but only the binder coat of pavement.

This was the bridge where I had to stop the last time I did this ride. Now we were able to walk over it and continue on the last couple of miles to the end.

Going under RT 102.

All this nice green grass was dirt the last time I rode here. I don't think they will get anymore paving done this year, with the colder weather coming, but you never know.

Coventry Bike Path Ride

Coventry Bike path Ride by paulmnbw at Garmin Connect - Details

I decided to see how the construction was going on the newest section of the Coventry bike path today, instead of doing the club ride. I must say, it's going pretty well, but I don't think it will be done before winter arrives.

I was able to go around all of the gates warning that the path was closed and I had quite a few other riders doing the same thing.

Some sections are just waiting for the final top coat of pavement.

Other sections aren't paved at all yet, but graded, so the riding was easy going.

The trestle going over Johnson's Pond or Flat River Reservoir.

I've been waiting for years to be able to cross over the pond.

RT 117 below, our normal route when we're riding in this area. The bike path is so much nicer and flatter.

There were quite a few other bridges on the route, to my surprise.

This is a major crossing with a lot being built on the left. The stone dust trail is for horses and parallels the path.

Fabulous views along this new section.

Here's a better view of the horse trail on the right.

Here is where I decided to stop and head back, even though there was still a couple of miles to go.

I didn't want to climb down the embankment and cross that stream. It didn't stop other riders though, you can see the planks they put across the stream.

I talked to a rider that has been riding this new section for a couple of months, he said these footings were just poured this week. This is why I don't think the path will be done before winter arrives. Hopefully I'm wrong.
